History:

Belo Horizonte is a planned city and disposes about one of the biggest architectural complexes of Oscar Niemeyer in Brasil, most buildings of that complex are situated at the Pampulha Lagoon. Other artists like Burle Marx, Potinari and Ceschiati left their footprints in this place. Before Belo Horizonte was build, that place was known as “Curral del Rei“, a place near to the emerald city Sabará. The found of precious stones helped to build up a infrastructure and commerce. “Curral del Rei” was chosen to be the future capital of the state, due to it´s agreeable climate, the soil conditions, the numerous fountain heads and the topography. The city was build following the example of the most modern cities at that time, Washington D.C. and Paris. Large Avenues, a lot of green and a sewer system was included in the plans. The city was officially inaugurated in 1898.
